TUROB was founded under the title of Marmara Region Tourist Hotelkeepers Association (TOD) in the year 1971and with 13 persons.
This Association which had been showing activities until the year 1983 now continues to work as the Association of the Tourist Hotelkeepers and Hotel Managers (TUROB) at present upon the change of the Associations Law.
The foundation purpose of the association is to perform some scientific and practical studies on the subject, problems and their solutions relating to tourism, to make contribution to such comprehensive studies, to enable the tourism and the tourist establishments to be improved in compliance with the needs of tourism in this direction, and also to provide and maintain necessary directly or indirectly relationship and coordination of association with the relevant offices, organisations, corporations, companies and persons among members and to represent its members both inside and outside the sector properly.
Most of the 5 and 4 stars hotels rendering services for tourism in Istanbul are members of the Association. There are 11Hotelkeeper Association in the regional character in our country. The monthly meetings are held in coordination with these Associations. The Presidency of TUROB Union which was founded in the year 1994 with the participation of 11 Associations was being chaired by the President of TUROB until this year as well.
Our Association is in a close relationship with its members and publishes circulars on the subject of the regulations relating to the accommodation sector for the public and informs its members accordingly for such matters. In addition to this, our Association organises monthly meetings with meals in order to provide the social solidarity among its members and to inform them about the regulations of tourism, and also publishes a press bulletin on the subject of the meetings participated and the activities of Association within the previous period.
Our Association also played a crucial and leading role in the preparation process of the law draft of Turkey Tourist Hotelkeepers Association which would gather together the accommodation section which is the most important branch of the tourism sector in the structure of a constitutional organisation, and is still continues its studies on this subject.
Our Association prepared identification cards for its members and firstly prepared an identity card which is valid for the tourist activities both inside and outside the country and these cards are renewed once in every two years.
A special plaque was prepared evidencing that the tourist establishments are the members of Association and then distributed to our members to be hanged on the entrance doors.
Our Association gave the first Golden Key Plaque in the year 1993 in the accommodation section in a special ceremony because they brought the highest amount of foreign currency into our country on the accommodation sector for the first time.
Purpose is:
- To reorganise all of the opportunities of the hotels in a manner to make contribution to the tourism again and for the development of tourism,
- To carry out the studies on the subject of development, marketing and incitements,
- To carry out the studies on its subject with the ministry and sector organisations,
- To prepare the leading reports to the Ministry and to the sector by means of collaboration with the ministry and the sector organisations.
The mission is:
- To announce the results to be obtained from the public surveys to emphasise on its place and weight within the sector with the Ministries of Labour, Finance and Economy,
- To make prepared the necessary projects to direct the foreign and domestic investments,
- To determine the standards about the hotels, buildings and establishments and to impose to Ministry,
- To collaborate with the other representatives of the sector,
- To classify the hotels and related establishments, and to play an effective role in their promotions.
